Description:

We have developed a unique math program that focuses on helping students have a sense of mathematics in meaningful ways. This program builds confidence for all children to succeed in mathematics. The standard in Alabama has been set very high with the AHS Exit Exam, SAT 10, and the No Child Left Behind Act. All students should set their study habits very high to match what is expected from the student.   Books and Notebooks by Prentice Hall and Glencoe Publications.  We also use PLATO Titles and Courses online at ple.plateweb.com  One major objective is for every student to pass the Alabama High School Graduation Exam.  Each student will be given 6 times during their 10th, 11th and 12 th years. Most students pass this exam on the 1st attempt.

Homework Requirements Homework is given to follow closely with class work. The homework is usually in the Math (Workbook). The homework web page is available with each daily assignment, upcoming tests, projects, and happenings. The homework is graded for correctness.  Note: No student should spend over 45 minutes on written math homework assignments.  Usually, there is some time to do homework in class and during resource time.  If questions arise, circle the problem and ask the teacher the following day at the beginning of the class. NOTEBOOK  Requirements  Each student should  have a notebook. Failure to have a notebook will result in a poor grade.  (Suggested: five subject notebook)   This notebook will have classwork, homework, and objectives.  Each student should be responsible for keeping this notebook……The notebook, workbook, and materials make up a large portion of the student's overall grade. .Each student is provided a Workbook and this is used for homework and classroom assignments.

Tests  There are 3 to 6  tests each nine-week grading period. Each section is tested 2 times and in this sequence the next test is very similar to the last test and sometimes content covered is identical. It is very important that the student correct errors on each test, and place test in notebook.  The MID NINE WEEKS REPORT will have approximate grade average after the 5th week of the NINE Week Grading Period.  Report Sheets are given the Thursday following the end of each NINE WEEK Grading Period.

Evaluation: The student should communicate with their parents concerning their test grades and each parent/guardian should sign every test and have the test returned to the teacher. Graded test are passed out on Monday’s to the student.  The student may attain their overall average each Friday by asking the teacher. Tests comprise approximately 40% of the final grade.  Notebook--Classwork, Workbook--Homework, Materials, and Notebook--Objectives make up to 60% of the final grade.
